Databases, software tools and physical research facilities are digital and physical collections and environments of importance to scientific/scholarly research.
The creation and maintenance of datasets, databases, software tools or research facilities requires a considerable investment in research time and money. These outputs provide digital access to sources and digital research tools, or involve physical facilities such as repositories (e.g. of artwork). Such tools and facilities support the work of other researchers.
Evidence for the use of these outputs can be provided in the form of agreements with academic users, records of scientific/scholarly use or users (number of downloads, registrations, logins), or from citations (references) in publications.
